Italian Sports Director Alberto Volpi has signed to be one of the sports directors at the BAHRAIN MERIDA Pro Cycling Team.

Alberto Volpi, born in 1962, was a professional rider from 1984 to 1997. He has been involved in the world of professional cycling almost all his life. After his professional career as a rider, he stayed tightly connected with his favorite sport and became a sports director. Until now, hehas  worked for seven different teams and gained valuable experiences.

Brent Copeland, General Manager of the BAHRAIN MERIDA PRO CYCLING TEAM, said about Alberto Volpi as one of the Sports Directors in the new team:

“Alberto has an immense amount of experience in the cycling world, both as a top pro cyclist and as a sports director. We are very pleased that he took this decision to join our team. Alberto has worked in many different teams with many different nationalities of riders and staff and has experience of how to work with both young and mature riders from Africa, GCC, USA as well as Europe. This is a big quality for a sports director as he has the knowledge of mixing different mentalities and cultures which is of great importance in today's cycling world. Our team has 12 different nationalities and this is the reason for having such an important sports director in the team”.

After signing the contract, Volpi commented:

”I’m really proud and happy to be part of this new project, I would like to thank the managing staff for this opportunity and the trust they’re giving me. This is going to be a pleasure to be able to come back working with colleagues, athletes and staff member I already had the opportunity to work with.”
