Stage 8 of the Tour de France was held entirely on Breton soil and finished at the top of the feared Mur de Bretagne. It was a big goal for Bretagne-Séché Environnement but they had a bad day.
While France took their first stage win with Alexis Vuillermoz, there was no reason to celebrate for the local team which was cheered on by thousands of spectators. Pierre-Luc Périchon managed to be in the break after Arnaud Gerard and Armindo Fonseca had tried but he didn't get much of an advantage.
Just 70 kilometers from the finish, they were cuaght. Pierrick Fedrigo tried his luck in a new group. A compact peloton approached Mûr-de-Bretagne but neither Eduardo Sepulveda not Pierrick Fedrigo had the legs to fight with the best. They finished outside the top 40.
