Nairo Quintana, Chris Froome, Peter Sagan and Fabio Aru are some of the riders that could race in Costa Rica. The reason is that the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), which organizes events like the Tour de France, is keen to organize a new race in the country.
This was revealed on Friday the vice president of the Costa Rican Cycling Federation (FECOCI), Marco Echeverria, during the official presentation of the 51st edition of the Vuelta a Costa Rica that will be held from December 14 to 25.
"We have already exchanged 12 emails with the ASO company that wants to come to Costa Rica to organize a race and give advice to the Vuelta a Costa Rica. The French ambassdor is very interested," said Echeverria according to La Nacion.
ASO want to see the legendary Cerro de la Muerte climb.
"It has as international reputation riders praise the climb. They say they want to see it so let's try to record everything to send it to ASO," said the manager.
Furthermore, the FECOCI is interested in making an alliance with the famous company.
"It's for the benefit of the entire national cycling because they are talking about an exchange of coaches and cyclists. That means we could have more Andrey Amadors in Europe."
The new race would be similar to the Tour de San Luis in Argentina.
"We are talking about an event of five or six days, with WorldTour teams and some national teams."
This project is progressing and could become a reality in 2017.
