"These are my training roads, so it was a nice day on the front. We lost a minute and 30 seconds of our lead because we had to stop for a train. Maybe without this, I could have gone to the finish," Wyss says

Danilo Wyss almost did a big coup in today's big mountain stage of the Tour de Suisse when he stayed clear from the peloton until 4km from the finish. Having lost more than a minute at a railroad crossing, the Swiss regretted the incident that may have cost him a chance to win a stage in his home race.

BMC Racing Team's Danilo Wyss earned "most aggressive rider" honors Saturday at the Tour de Suisse before teammates Cadel Evans and Steve Morabito finished in the top 15, moving Evans into the top 10 overall with a day of the race to go. Wyss was part of a eight-man breakaway that enjoyed a nearly seven-minute advantage on the 219-kilometer stage, the race's longest.

With the escape down to three, Wyss made his move and attacked nine kilometers from the summit finish. With six kilometers to go, he still had a minute's advantage, but was caught just outside of four kilometers.

"I am really happy with my stage," Wyss said. "These are my training roads, so it was a nice day on the front. We lost a minute and 30 seconds of our lead because we had to stop for a train. Maybe without this, I could have gone to the finish."

Evans finished 13th and Morabito was 15th, both 40 seconds back of stage winner Johan Esteban Chaves (ORICA-GreenEDGE). Tony Martin (Omega Phama-Quick Step) kept the overall lead, but Evans jumped from 16th to 10th, 2:30 behind, while Morabito climbed 10 spots to 12th, 3:05 back.

"We thought the break might make it today," BMC Racing Team Sport Director Jackson Stewart said. "Danilo did a good job and made a really strong performance at the end on the climb. We sure hoped he would have had that extra minute they lost to the train."
