The first stage of the Tour of Beijing on Friday was not an easy one for the riders of the BMC Racing Team. That’s why Samuel Sánchez is already looking forward to the mountain stage coming up later on the race.
The stage one, windy a little bit cold, of 167 kilometer from Chong Li to Zhangjiakou – has been characterized by a breakaway of three riders Tosh van der Sande (Lotto-Belisol), Julian Kern (Ag2r La Mondiale), Jeremy Roy (FDJ.fr) started just after the kick off. The main group caught them with 20 km to go. Luka Mezgec from Team Giant-Shimano won the crowded final sprint in front to Caleb Ewan (ORICA-GreenEDGE) and Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp). About BMC Racing Team’s Steve Cummings took the start but he had to abandon after few kilometer due to some lingering knee pain. “It was a really hard stage” said the BMC Racing Team Sport Director Yvon Ledanois “was windy with a lot of up and down during the stage and the group split in two. In the first part we had Gilbert, Nerz and Sánchez, our designed GC’s leader”. Samuel Sánchez is waiting the stage that suits him at the best “I’m in a good shape and I believe I can compete with the best ones here. We’ll see in the mountain stage”.
