The World Cyclo-Cross Championships will be held on January 30 and 31 but the tickets are already very popular “More than 32,000 tickets have already been sold,” organizer Koen Monu told Sporza. "It will be a wonderful Worlds.”
Monu set the bar very high last year. "I'd like 80,000 visitors over the two days", he said back then. "That must be possible and we have the capacity."
Yesterday the organizer announced that 32,000 tickets have already been sold even though the Worlds are still two months away. “Everything runs smoothly but we hope that the terrorist threat has been pushed into the background at that time.
"There's a lot of organization involved in such a world championships. The terrorist threat adds more work, but I'm looking forward to it. It will be a wonderful Worlds."
The last Worlds on Belgian soil was in Koksijde in 2012 and attracted 60,000 fans.
