The 2018 World Cyclo-Cross Championships will take place in Valkenburg. Last year Adri van der Poel redesigned the course for the Cauberg Cross which was won last weekend by his son Mathieu. In 2018, the course will be almost the same it will start with a climb of the Cauberg on the asphalt as we know from the Amstel Gold Race.
The start of the Worlds will be held at Grendelplein in Valkenburg, just at the bottom of the Cauberg. From the start, the riders will tackle the climb which is approximately one kilometer long and has a gradient of thirteen percent. At the top, the riders riders will hit the course that is known from the Cauberg Cross.
"That's a wish of the UCI and of course it would be weird to ignore such a legendary climb," Mayor Martin Eurlings told De Limburger . In this way, the strongest riders can create a gap immediately.
In 2017 the Worlds will take place in the Luxembourg city of Bieles. A year later, Valkenburg will get the nod.
